Alarm! HE WILL BE TURNED OVER! HE WILL BE TORTURED! He
is a neighbor: Josu Beaumont Barberena. Condemned to 8
years of prison by the Paris Court, his sentence ends
on the 16th of March of this year. There is no request
for extradition by Spain. There are no charges against
him in Spain.
Nevertheless, the Pro-Amnesty Councils and Senideak FEAR that, in violation of their own and internation laws, , France will expel him from its territory, and deliver him to the Civil Guard or the Spanish National Police. And that as has occured in already far to many analogous cases, HE WILL BE TORTURED.
SENIDEAK has requested that the residents of the Old Town mobilize ourselves to stop it. A group of us that meet as members of BASQUE RED NET, have constructed a web page about the problem, and have posted it on the BASQUE RED NET site. Here.
On this page is the testimony of other Basques who have been through this experience, AND BEEN SUBJECTED TO TORTURE. On the past February the 17th, the full session of the European Parliament approved their Report on respect for Human Rights. In the report, the European Committee expresses its worries about the prevention of torture and the persistance of mistreatment of persons in custody, which, in the Spanish prisons, "goes up to torture", especially in the case of Basque political prisoners.
